Questions To Ask Dads For Gift Ideas

Some people are just hard to shop for. I’m one of them, my Dad too, and probably his Dad. A lot of dudes just don’t ‘need’ anything, and a lot of Dads just don’t want you to spend a ton of money on them. Regardless, they deserve something for being awesome. Knowing the key questions to ask can help you pinpoint a direction to go in, and then expand on it from there.

Try these questions on for size and see how you get on.

Where does you like to shop?

Could be Lowes, could be J Crew, could be Target. Either way, at least you’ll narrow down the place to go to find something suitable.

What are you into?

Dads have a ton of different interests. The obvious things like sports, grilling or Shania Twain may not even be in their top 10. Find out what that Papa likes and your gift just got way more interesting.

What’s your favorite restaurant?

An easy one, but one that some people forget. Either take him out to dinner there or get a gift card. You can’t go wrong with a nice meal!

Are you saving up for anything?

There’s a 99% chance you’ll get some awful Dad joke in response. Retirement? A rainy day? Whatever. Really you want to know that secret something he’s had his eye on for a while and is keeping a few dollar bills back for. Maybe it’s a new watch. Maybe it’s a boat. You can help him get there, or get it for him.

What’s your favorite color?

Shirts, shorts, any kind of clothing. Get the color right and he’ll be happy. It may not be obvious since many Dads get dressed in the dark. But worth an ask anyway.

What movies do you like?

A cool one to ask because you can get him something from the movie, get tickets to a similar movie or even get the movie on Amazon or whatever you use. There’s definitely an eclectic mix of tastes among Dads, so weird answers or movies you haven’t heard of are to be expected.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Another one where Dad jokes can be expected. ‘I don’t have any spare time’ for example. However, Dads DO have spare time. Whether it’s laying on the sofa or hiding in a tool shed, if he’s being coy, put the Dad in question under some close surveillance and you’ll have an answer in no time. Think logically from there. New slippers perhaps.

What’s your next big project at home?

All Dads have a list of projects they need to get to, but probably don’t have time. How about getting a bunch of friends to help get it done? Hire a handyman to do it instead? Or just have some quality 1 on 1 time. Help is appreciated, so whether your gift is physical help or something that could help get ‘er done, it’ll go down well.

Who is your favorite band?

Just get tickets to see ‘The Boss’ at his next gig.
